Jozy Altidore Scores a wondergoal for AZ Alkmaar & Continues to Impress in the Eredivisie

What a hit from Jozy Altidore whose fine form for AZ Alkmaar continued today with this strike from distance to put his club 1-0 up in the Europa League. Jozy has been a scoring machine since moving to the Eredivisie from Villareal this summer. Holland’s first division is well known for producing goals and is a great league for any striker. It seems that all Jozy needed was confidence & playing time. His physical skill is a great asset in Holland, allowing him to hold off defenders and find space for the shot. To think Altidore is only 21.

It’s hard to tell that who’s more excited about Jozy’s recent performances: his current fans at AZ Alkmaar or the USMNT faithful who have been waiting for this version of Jozy for years. To be honest, the amount of criticism directed at Altidore from US fans has been quite harsh considering he bypassed the NCAA, represented his country, made a name for himself in MLS, is now playing in Europe but couldn’t buy a beer on this side of the pond until last November. He’s a kid, but he represents so much more to US supporters who see him as the future of soccer in this country and are growing up just like he is.

The soccer scene is very young in the United States. Traditions are still being forged, the culture of football is still being discovered & icons are still emerging. Jozy is one of those icons. He’s been an icon ever since he signed a professional contract for New York Red Bulls at the age of 17. All eyes have been on him since his first cap for the US National team and he has taken everything in stride.

Strikers live and die by the ball. For every striker the best medicine is always scoring. Despite what people may say, write, or tweet, none of it matters except putting the ball in the back of the net. Jozy deserves this run of form, he’s been putting in the hard work for years and it’s great to see it all paying off for the young man. It’s only September but this season could be very exciting for Altidore who will have no trouble finding playing time with his new club.
